Teaching
MACV fellows directed a four-week mural class throughout the Summer of 2025 at GAAH. Neighborhood kids learned stencil and painting techniques, and even some color theory. Fellows prepared supplies and materials, and guided students through the entire mural process. At the end of programming, GAAH students and MACV fellows celebrated the finished project with a huge reception at Roberto Clemente Park, which is where the mural is permanently displayed .
Artists Creating Together
In Spring 2024, MACV fellows taught a mixed media course at Artists Creating Together. ACT is a Grand Rapids organization that empowers individuals with disabilities to learn, grow, and celebrate through the arts.
Fellows developed lesson plans that focused on students’ self-portraiture, imagination and motor skills. We also donated individual artworks to the annual ACT auction, contributing proceeds to ACT’s programming.
Artist Talks
In Fall 2024, MACV fellows presented artists talks to Visual and Media Arts students at Grand Valley State University. To prepare, fellows developed PowerPoint Presentations that chronologically outlined their practice and growth. They then paired images with words to clearly communicate the concepts and inspirations behind each piece. Throughout each presentation, fellows explained their ideas and processes in an intelligent and accessible way.
